We’ve Got Some Bad News About Disney World’s New Muppets Coaster

Well, some things are going to be changing in Hollywood Studios soon.

Yes, a new Villains-themed show is coming to the park, but the bigger project will be a brand new Monsters, Inc. land that will be taking over Muppets Courtyard, meaning the closure of Muppet*Vision 3D. However, Disney did reveal that it has plans to bring the Muppets to Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster, but that’s not going to be ideal for a lot of people (especially those who will mourn Muppet*Vision 3D as Jim Henson’s last project).

After months of speculation, Disney officially announced that the new Monsters, Inc. Land will be replacing Muppets Courtyard in Disney’s Hollywood Studios. Therefore, much to many fans’ dismay, Mike Wazowski will be replacing Kermit the Frog in his pond. (We just hope that Mike’s face will be seen on all the merchandise and not be covered up by bar codes!) Let’s face it – Disney’s Hollywood Studios has a lot of stuff going on right now!

They’re going to be re-theming the Muppets Courtyard to the new Monsters, Inc. Land, re-theming Rock ‘n’ Rollercoaster to a Muppets Coaster, opening not one, but two new shows (Little Mermaid and a Villains show), and more. But there’s this one attraction that’s feeling like a serious dud right now, and honestly people are over it!

When Is Disney CLOSING Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster in Hollywood Studios?

UPDATED June 5, 2025

Well, we got some good news and bad news about Disney’s Hollywood Studios this year. The good news is that an ENTIRE new land themed around Monsters, Inc. is coming to the park — and it will feature the ride we’ve always dreamed of — a ride based on the doors chase scene in the movie! YES!!!

But then we started wondering, where exactly would this new land go? Well, Disney gave us some bad news recently because we also learned this new land would be replacing Muppets Courtyard, closing Muppet*Vision 3D. BUT then we got good news AGAIN because Disney also announced Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster is getting a new Muppets theme. Yes, we’ve been in a whirlwind of “Sweet Emotion” lately! BUT that means Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster will have to close…so when will that happen?

When is Muppets Courtyard Closing in Disney World?

UPDATED January 29, 2025

When Disney first announced that Monsters, Inc. Land would be coming to Hollywood Studios, they left out where this new land would be located.

Based on the concept art and the layout of Hollywood Studios, fans speculated that it would go in place of the Animation Courtyard or Muppets Courtyard. Fast forward to about three months later, and Disney finally revealed the new land’s location. The brand-new Monsters, Inc. Land will be taking the current location of Muppets Courtyard.
