Guest Review: Boatwright’s Dining Hall at Disney’s Port Orleans Riverside Resort

DFB welcomes Guest Author Sara McCaslin with a review of Boatwright’s at Port Orleans Resort Riverside in Walt Disney World. Stop here for southern hospitality!

On Oct. 3, 2015, my dining companions (my husband and two dear friends) arrived at Port Orleans Riverside Resort for our 6:15pm advance dining reservation at Boatwright’s. The four of us were enjoying the delights of Disney’s Deluxe Dining Plan for a few days and wanted to experience new sit-down places. Before our trip, I heavily researched many menus and reviews via the Disney Food Blog and decided to give Boatwright’s a try. The menu was intriguing with many comfort food options.

We arrived at Port Orleans Riverside via Disney’s bus transportation. Diners can also use the waterways from Disney Springs to travel to either Port Orleans Riverside or Port Orleans French Quarter. Port Orleans Riverside resort is a lovely, pleasant place to stay while at Walt Disney World. My husband and I have called this resort home twice throughout the years. We enjoyed both stays but did not take advantage of the resort sit-down dining option during those stays. Shame on us because Boatwright’s is a hidden treasure among the expert theming and exciting character experiences of other resort and theme part eateries.

Welcome to Boatwright's Dining Hall

Welcome to Boatwright’s Dining Hall

Diners can access Boatwright’s from either the front or back of Port Orleans Riverside. If entering from the front of the resort, simply turn left at the lobby entrance to see the lounge and the dining room is just a few steps further. If entering from the back of the resort, perhaps after arriving via the boat, simply walk along the marina to your right and look up to view the welcoming Boatwright’s sign. This door will usher you directly into Boatwright’s check-in and waiting area.

What’s Your Ideal “Disney Dining Plan”?

So, yesterday there’s a bit of a to-do about the Disney Dining Plan. Apparently there’s a typo in Disney’s official PDF describing the Standard Disney Dining Plan, indicating that an appetizer is available with all table-service meals.

Incorrect Info in DDP PDF

Based on calls to Disney Dining (speaking to supervisors and managers), Erin heard that this is, indeed, just a typo and not a change in policy. But if it WAS true, that’d be awesome!

And this got me thinking… what if we could design our very own Disney Dining Plan based on the way we and our families eat in Disney World!?

What Would YOUR Ideal Disney Dining Plan Look Like?

So what if they introduced a “Magic Your Way Dining Plan,” where guests could build their own individualized plan off of a base plan? Let’s dream a little, shall we?

Snack-tastic

Customize your counter service : table service : snack ratio!
One thing that we keep hearing: the Standard Dining Plan is too little, the Deluxe Dining Plan is too much (and yup, we know…it TOTALLY works just fine for some folks.) So, what if you could change things up a bit?

Not a big fan of sit-down breakfast? You could add more counter service meals or snacks in to make for a light first meal o’ the day. What if your little ones have no interest in sitting still for table service? Not a problem! Which brings us to another pie in the sky option…

Different people in your party could have different dining plans!
Maybe your 3-9 year old eats like a linebacker and doesn’t order off of the children’s menu. Or maybe he or she eats like a bird, and you’d rather choose a different level for him or her. Or maybe you have a [Read more…]

2012 Disney Dining Plan Changes

Details for the 2012 Disney Dining Plans have begun to be unveiled! See Pricing below (thanks to reader Pudge the Fish for this!). And there are a few changes you need to know about if you’re planning a 2012 trip.

Standard Disney Dining Plan to Include Refillable Mugs

Let’s look at the thirst-quenching addition first. The standard Disney Dining Plan will include refillable mugs!

Our first clue that this addition was likely in the works was via the release of the Virgin Holidays 2012 free dining package details for United Kingdom guests. And we can now confirm that refillable mugs will be included in all standard Disney Dining Plan packages! You’ll receive one refillable mug per person for refills at quick-service locations ONLY in your Disney resort hotel.

Quick-Service Dining Plan Reduces Snack Quota to One Per Day

Quick Service Disney Dining Plans didn’t fare as well for the 2012 season. If you love snacks (cupcakes, Dole Whip and more!), the significant change is that [Read more…]

Guest Review: Victoria and Albert’s Chef’s Table

Thanks to Sarah McGovern for this incredibly intimate review of the Chef’s Table at Victoria & Albert’s. Located in Disney’s Grand Floridian Resort & Spa, this restaurant offers award-winning five-star dining! Savor the review slowly and do not skip ahead to the desserts!! (Well, you can if you want, but then come back to the beginning :-D)

Our first visit to Victoria & Albert’s was during our September 2009 honeymoon. My husband Barry and I are self-proclaimed foodies and this meal was going to be the icing on the cake of our week-long Deluxe Dining Plan extravaganza. It did not disappoint. We were blown away by every aspect of our 2 ½ hour meal. So when planning our next trip to Walt Disney World for our 1 year anniversary, we asked ourselves how we were going to top our last dining experience? The Chef’s Table of course!

My Dad and Step-mom, who share in our passion for food, joined us on this trip, and I was fortunate enough to secure a reservation for the last day of our trip. We arrived just before 5 pm on the day and waited in the atrium outside of the restaurant to be escorted to our table. We were dressed to the nines and ready for our 4 hour meal!

The hostess came out to greet us and led us into the very quiet and formal dining room. We then entered a completely different environment…the kitchen. It was loud and full of excitement. There is so much energy in a professional kitchen. We were shown to our table, which was right there in the center of it all!

Chef's Table with a kitchen view!

Chef Scott Hunnel graciously introduced himself…how exciting! Here is a world-renowned chef preparing and presenting every course of our dinner. Simply amazing. We shared a champagne toast with Chef Hunnel and discussed any dietary [Read more…]
