When you visit Disney World, you may hear a LOT of phrases that you don’t understand!
Disney fans use jargon that is completely unique to the parks, filled with acronyms and fancy words that don’t mean anything to the outsider or the first-time guest. As you become more acquainted with the parks, you’ll start to learn more about “Disney speak,” but today we’re giving you a crash course!
We’ve seen quite a few changes made recently when it comes to the Walt Disney Company.
Not too long ago, Disney MASSIVELY restructured their media and entertainment businesses to focus on streaming. We’ve also seen a lot of shake-ups within the team of creators responsible for MAKING all the Disney magic, Imagineering. We’ve seen quite a few influential individuals retiring and others getting new titles. So, what’s the deal? What’s going on over at Imagineering and why should you care? We’re sharing all the details here with you.
To say we’re fans of Disney’s Imagineers would be an understatement. And one of the most noteworthy Imagineering icons is Joe Rohde! Â
If you’re also a fan of Disney Imagineering, then you might want to know that Rohde is auctioning off some VERY special items from Disney’s Animal Kingdom’s opening day online! This is not a drill!Â
Earlier this year, legendary Imagineer Joe Rohde retired from the Walt Disney Company.
Rohde was the driving creative force behind so many incredible projects at Walt Disney World and beyond, including Disney’s Animal Kingdom and Aulani, A Disney Resort & Spa. Well, if you’re wondering how Rohde is filling his time these days (aside from the occasional garage sale), we’ve got a little bit of an idea. Turns out Rohde has changed his focus from animals, nature, and theme parks to…the final frontier!
Today, let’s go to EPCOT, Walt Disney World’s second park!
The park opened in 1982 and has been a fan-favorite ever since, with the amazing technology and rides of Future World and the exquisite culture of World Showcase. EPCOT is currently undergoing a massive transformation (particularly focused on Future World), and we can’t wait to see what the park becomes! To celebrate and share our love for this wonderful Disney park, we’re talking about all 25 hidden secrets in EPCOT that you may not know!
Recently, we’ve seen a lot of Disney Cast Members retiring after long careers with the company.
Last year, Executive Chef Bruno Vrignon retired after 38 years in EPCOT’s France Pavilion, and then Jim MacPhee, the Senior Vice President of Operations announced his retirement in December. Joe Rohde, legendary Imagineer and the lead designer of Disney’s Animal Kingdom also retired from the company less than two weeks ago after working with Disney for 40 years. Now, another one of Disney’s best Imagineers has announced his retirement for later this year — Kevin Rafferty.Â
We learned back in November that legendary Walt Disney Company Imagineer Joe Rohde would be retiring today, January 4th, 2021.
His 40 year-long career with Disney has included such amazing projects as World Showcase pavilions, Guardians of the Galaxy — Mission: Breakout!, Captain EO, and most notably, Disney’s Animal Kingdom Theme Park. His time with the Imagineering department has produced some incredible work, and today he and his coworkers had a few things to say about his retirement.
Disney World is teeming with hidden Mickeys, special tributes, and inside jokes.
The Imagineers hide these gems in attractions, restaurants, and resorts. Look up and you’ll find an advertisement in a shop window on Main Street, U.S.A. that’s named after an Imagineer. Or, look down and you’ll see seashells placed into the pavement outside of Under the Sea ~ Journey of The Little Mermaid (maybe by Ariel, herself?). There are so many thoughtful secrets to be found! We’re highlighting some of Disney World’s best-hidden secrets in the parks and beyond!
We’ve got some bittersweet news for you today.
Famous Walt Disney Imagineer Joe Rohde has announced his retirement from the Walt Disney Company. You know him from projects such as Animal Kingdom and Aulani — and now, he’s moving on.
