NEWS: Disney Files NEW Extended Permit for Big Thunder Mountain Railroad

A LOT is happening at Magic Kingdom in Disney World. A LOT.

First, let’s just say we’re excited about the new nighttime parade, Disney Starlight, coming to the park. We are BEYOND hyped for the new Villains land coming to the park. We’re not so happy about all the construction that’s going to start soon to make way for a new Cars-themed area in Frontierland (well, we are excited about the new rides, but not the construction walls). In the process, Big Thunder Mountain Railroad is closed and in the middle of a huge refurbishment, and a new permit might hint at when Disney World expects the ride to reopen.

Disney World’s Best Pool Is Still Closed. Come With Us to See an Update!

One of Disney World’s coolest and most sought-after pools is still under construction.

Stormalong Bay, located between Disney’s Yacht and Beach Club Resorts, closed for refurbishment in January of 2025 and is set to reopen again just in time for the Summer season this June. We are seriously impressed by the amount of work going into this refurbishment, and we have a little update about how it’s moving along!

Big Thunder Mountain Railroad – – the “Wildest Ride in the Wilderness” – – has been one of the Magic Kingdom’s most popular attractions since the East Coast version of Tony Baxter’s E-Ticket magnum opus opened over 40 years ago. However, the coaster has been down for the majority of the 2025.

NEWS! Disney Shares a New Test Track Update

We are one step closer to Test Track re-opening this summer at EPCOT!

Last June, Test Track closed for a lengthy re-imagining to become a third iteration of the fan-favorite attraction. Disney said that this new version would take inspiration from the ride’s predecessor, World of Motion. While no opening date has been announced, the attraction is expected to open late this summer, and we just got a new look at the progress of its reimagining!

Disney’s Grand Floridian Resort has been under refurbishment for a few years now.

Starting with an overhaul of the guest rooms, this multi-year project has taken over pretty much the whole resort at one point or another, but it’s finally drawing to a close. Last but not least is the lobby update, which includes the addition of a new lobby bar. However, in order for this change to happen, it seems like we might lose a beloved tradition — the Grand Floridian gingerbread house.

Disney’s Grand Floridian Resort & Spa is continuing with its multi-year refurbishment that has included updates for Victoria & Albert’s, Cítricos, Narcoossee’s, and 1900 Park Fare. Next up on the list is the LOBBY! That’s right, the Grand Floridian lobby is getting a makeover.

From the towering ceilings to the delicate accents throughout, and sometimes even some beautiful piano music, the lobby transports you with its Victorian charm. Disney Imagineers are approaching the updates carefully to maintain the “heart and story of the Grand Floridian, while adding fresh new life to the lobby for guests to enjoy,” and we just got a FIRST LOOK!

Why Is It Taking Disney World a Full Year to Refurbish Buzz Lightyear’s Space Ranger Spin?

Disney World is undergoing some pretty intense refurbishments and adding some massive construction projects over the next few years.

Big Thunder Mountain Railroad will be closed for refurbishment through at least the beginning of 2026, Dinoland U.S.A. has begun its transition into Pueblo Esperanza, It’s Tough to Be A Bug just closed to make way for Zootopia: Better Zoogether, and that’s just the tip of the iceberg. Disney more recently announced another massive closure that will take at least a year.
