Disney World Files First Permits for Animation Courtyard Overhaul

Disney World has doubled down on construction this year, and SO much is happening in ALL of the parks. In Disney’s Hollywood Studios, Muppets Courtyard recently closed to make way for a new Monsters, Inc. land. Meanwhile, the Muppets are planning to take over Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster.

Star Wars Launch Bay

Animation Courtyard is also getting a big overhaul: Star Wars Launch Bay is set to become The Magic of Disney Animation, while Animation Courtyard will become The Walt Disney Studios. Well, ahead of the construction that’s set to happen there, Disney World has filed the first permits for work in that part of the park.

Let’s face it – Disney’s Hollywood Studios has a lot of stuff going on right now!

They’re going to be re-theming the Muppets Courtyard to the new Monsters, Inc. Land, re-theming Rock ‘n’ Rollercoaster to a Muppets Coaster, opening not one, but two new shows (Little Mermaid and a Villains show), and more. But there’s this one attraction that’s feeling like a serious dud right now, and honestly people are over it!

TWO new Cars-themed attractions are coming to Magic Kingdom’s Frontierland, and a new Villains Land will be going “Beyond Big Thunder Mountain.” Pueblo Esperanza will open in 2027 in Disney’s Animal Kingdom, replacing DinoLand. And Disney’s Hollywood Studios is also getting a brand new Monsters, Inc. Land! Now, if you’re wondering where that’s going, too, the answer is… it’s complicated.

We recently saw Snow White, Aladdin, and Jasmine return to Magic Kingdom, and that’s just the beginning! Over in Disney’s Hollywood Studios, characters have returned to Star Wars Launch Bay. Before Star Wars Galaxy’s Edge, this was the go-to spot to meet Star Wars characters in Disney World. We’ve seen Darth Vader and Chewbacca meeting here, and now, another friend from a galaxy far, far away has joined them!
