Let me start by saying: this thing came out on a literal boat.
Welcome to EPCOT!
No exaggeration. We sat down for what we thought would be a casual sushi meal at Shiki-Sai: Sushi Izakaya in EPCOT’s Japan Pavilion — and instead got hit with what can only be described as a full-blown sushi event. The $300 Fune (which, yes, means “boat”) was loaded, borderline ridiculous, and 100% one of the most over-the-top things we’ve eaten in EPCOT. Was it worth it? Absolutely — if you do it right.
This Disney World trip R.E.P.O.R.T. isn’t for the faint of heart because I am ready to SPILL the TEA about my latest visit to the Most Magical Place on Earth.

I’ve been going to Disney World since before I could walk and I’m lucky to still live within a few hours of the parks, so I visit every chance I get — for business and for pleasure (I am an editor here at Disney Food Blog after all, so sometimes it really IS my job to go to Disney World!). My latest trip to Disney World was actually to celebrate my latest trip around the sun, and I’ve got some HOT takes about what I experienced.

The gingerbread displays are up at the hotels, both Mickey’s Very Merry Christmas Party and Jollywood Nights are underway, the EPCOT Festival of the Holidays has started, and there are loads of additional new holiday snacks and drinks available ALL over Disney World. Well, get ready to that holiday snacks list, because EPCOT just got even MORE festive food and drinks.
Get this! A new EPCOT restaurant just started a dining rewards program! If you collect Starbucks points or hoard reward points at Sephora, get ready for some GREAT news.

Lately, we’ve all been focused on celebrating the unveiling of the new look in World Celebration, taking in the brand new nighttime spectacular, Luminous: The Symphony of US, and eating our way around the World Showcase during the Festival of the Holidays. EPCOT has seen some major changes in the past few years, and even more are on the way!

The park is undergoing a massive transformation that’s set to be complete later this year, but already in 2023 there have been some new additions. The Figment meet and greet opened up, along with a few updated snack stands. But one big thing that came to EPCOT this year? A brand-new restaurant!

Shiki-Sai: Sushi Izakaya has opened its doors and wowed us with its commitment to theme, delicious food, and stunning views. A few details really stood out to us when we stopped by to check it out, and it had us thinking — a few Disney restaurants could really learn a thing or two from this new restaurant concept!
There are several new restaurants opening this year in Disney World, including The Cake Bake Shop at Disney’s BoardWalk and Summer House on the Lake in Disney Springs.

EPCOT surprised us with an early opening of Shiki Sai: Sushi Izakaya in the Japan Pavilion on August 15th, and we stopped by to see what this new restaurant is all about. From color-changing drinks to a $300 sushi boat, this spot has a lot of exciting things to offer — but is it the right choice for you and your group? Maybe!
