With Disney Springs set to open on May 20th, it seems another Orlando entertainment district is opening too.
Universal CityWalk
Following the lengthy closure of the nearby theme parks, CityWalk at Universal Orlando will open on May 14th with limited hours, limited offerings, and new health and safety measures.
We just learned today that Disney World is beginning to send surveys to guests with existing reservations — asking which factors influence their decisions to travel. Universal has already sent out similar surveys in the past, but today they sent out a new set of questions.

According to Bay News 9, this new survey focuses on potential reopening scenarios — including various factors on capacity and cost, and how guests would feel about visiting the parks under each case.

The state of Florida has begun reopening its retail and dining businesses, and there has been some speculation over when we may see shops and restaurants open at locations like Disney Springs and Universal’s CityWalk.

According to Attractions Magazine, it seems as though CityWalk, the shopping and dining district at the Universal Orlando Resort, is planning a partial reopening next week.Â
In the wake of Governor Ron DeSantis’ big announcement yesterday regarding the gradual reopening of parts of Florida starting May 4th, Universal Orlando Resort officials have just released new guidelines for its employees.

Although no reopening date has been cited, Universal Studios says it will require employees to have their temperatures checked before starting work.
Last summer, it was announced that Universal Orlando Resort would be opening a brand new theme park: Universal’s Epic Universe.

Epic Universe will ultimately join Universal Studios Florida, Universal’s Islands of Adventure and the Volcano Bay water park when it makes its debut at the Resort. However, it has been announced that the construction of the new theme park has met with delays in light of the current global health situation which has led to the temporary closure of Universal Orlando Resort and Universal Hollywood as well as Walt Disney World and other Disney destinations. It’s been a little over a week since we heard that Florida would consider automatically enrolling employees from theme parks into the unemployment system.

Disney reached an agreement with the state to auto-enroll Cast Members earlier this week, and they’re not the only ones. Now another Orlando theme park giant has moved to aid its employees with enrollment. Today Universal Orlando announced that their workers would be auto-enrolled into the unemployment system. The state of Florida has recently put together a task force charged with brainstorming and orchestrating the reopening of the state as the global health crisis improves.

The task force, which includes Disney World President Josh D’Amaro, met today to discuss what sort of health measures may be necessary for industries throughout the state — including the Orlando theme parks. Though Disney did not speak at the meeting, Universal Orlando brought up several possibilities that their teams have been looking at to keep guests and employees safe.
Walt Disney World — along with Disney Parks around the globe — remains closed until further notice due to the current global health situation. As states are considering how to safely re-open their economies in light of new federal guidelines, the state of Florida is, of course, including the tourism industry within its areas of focus.

Since the theme parks have been closed for almost a month, we’ve been daydreaming about the next time we’ll be able to hop on our favorite rides in Disney World!

While Orlando has recently implemented a curfew and stay-at-home order to keep everyone safe, Disney World has also decided to keep its gates closed “until further notice.” And, the Orange County mayor recently commented on how long he thinks local businesses could be closed.
