Review: “Best of the Fest” at the 2013 Epcot Food and Wine Festival Marketplace Booths!

It’s here! The 2013 Epcot Food and Wine Festival is officially underway!

We’ve been super busy over the last couple of days, taking in low-cost demonstrations and special events. I can’t wait to share all of it with you (FYI: Parisian Breakfast = AWESOME!)!

But first, while opening weekend was a whirlwind of activity, we made it a point to check out every Marketplace Booth and try it all! It’s always our goal to do this so that YOU know which dishes are not-to-be-missed and can plan accordingly.

2013 Best of the Fest Marketplace Booth Dishes

While this “Best of” list started out a lot longer than this, we wanted to give you a breakdown of the cream of the crop — our very favorite dishes so far from the 2013 Marketplace Booths. Some of these are returning from past years, and some are brand new! Let’s go with the Best of the Fest for 2013!

Belgium: Potato and Leek Waffle with Braised Beef

Belgium features three different waffles in their lineup this year — one savory and two sweet. This Potato Leek Waffle comes with Braised Beef that reminds me of Sunday roasts.

The waffle is delicious by itself — but top it with the braised beef and MELTED BUTTER!!!! and it’s heavenly!

South Korea: Kimchi Dog

We’ve been raving about the South Korea Kimchi Dog since we first sampled it at the preview event for this year’s festival. The Spicy Hot Dog (which is specially made for Epcot just for the festival!) is topped with a fresh Kimchi Slaw and drizzled with a Spicy Mustard Sauce.

2010 Epcot Food and Wine Festival Preview

Since I’m not based in Florida, I asked my great friend and colleague (and Disney World Moms Panelist) Suzannah DiMarzio of ZannaLand, to attend the Tables in Wonderland preview of the 2010 Epcot Food and Wine Festival in my place. She kindly obliged and put together this fantastic review of the evening!

Of course, for all the latest information and breaking news, check out our 2010 Epcot Food and Wine Festival pages. Take it away, Zanna!

Concept Art for the 2010 Food and Wine Festival Entryway Display at Epcot

On July 8, 2010, I was given the amazing opportunity to be a special reporter for the Disney Food Blog and experience the Tables in Wonderland Food & Wine Festival Sneak Preview. This was the third Tables in Wonderland special event I’ve attended and the experience was, as always, uncompromisingly good. Here is a rundown of the evening’s service, all of which were previews for upcoming dishes at Epcot’s 15th Annual International Food & Wine Festival:

The event took place in the retired Wonders of Life pavilion. It had been quite some time since I’d been inside, so it was really cool to see the building still there (though it could really use some pressure washing on the outside!) and most of the inside still intact. Of course it was sad not seeing the big Cranium Command sign, the cool exercise bikes that showed Main Street, USA, on the TV screens as you pedaled, and Body Wars.

We were escorted backstage through an area next to Body Wars at the old Frontiers exhibit (still there for the most part). We ascended in a beautiful, mirrored elevator to the second floor and what used to be the VIP Lounge when Wonders of Life was functioning with a sponsor.

Passed Appetizers

The moment we stepped off the elevator and found our place card with table location on it, we were given our first wine selection: Paul Cheneau “Lady” Blanc de Blanc Cava from Spain. It was a lovely sparkling wine that came in a beautiful bottle.

Soon servers came around with our reception selections: Roasted Corn and Cheese Empanada from the Argentina kiosk;

New for the 2010 Epcot Food and Wine Festival:

Belgium, South Korea, and Singapore Join the Festival Marketplace

First of all, the most important news (to me, anyway) is that not only are Belgium and South Korea going to be new booths in the 2010 Epcot Food and Wine Festival Marketplace, but Singapore will be introduced on the World Showcase Promenade as well!

Looks like Belgium will feature steamed mussels, South Korea will feature “Bo Ssam” — lettuce wraps with a roast pork and kimchee slaw, and Singapore will feature shrimp cake with Singapore noodles!

Name Revealed for “Hacienda de San Angel,” Werther’s Comes to Epcot, and Other News

Just wanted to share a few more tidbits of news about the newest restaurants in Epcot’s World Showcase as well as some other Epcot food news!

Via Napoli and Hacienda de San Angel

First, as you know, Epcot will be revealing two restaurants this fall: Hacienda de San Angel is the new name for what was known as the Cantina de San Angel in the Mexico pavilion. This location will serve as a counter service eatery during the day, and a table service eatery at night.

Via Napoli, in the Italy pavilion, will be a brand new 300-seat restaurant in Epcot’s World Showcase. The recent news is that the wood-fired pizza ovens in the restaurant will represent three volcanoes in Italy!

The two will open in September, and should be added to Disney’s Advanced Dining Reservations availability in July or August, according to the announcements made at today’s D23 Flowers and Fireworks event.

Stay tuned this week for even more details and announcements about Via Napoli and Hacienda de San Angel! To follow the News stories about these restaurants, check out these links:

Werther’s Candy Store Comes to Germany

Word is that Germany’s Goebel Shop in the World Showcase will become a Werther’s Candy Shop by September, 2010. While you’re waiting, check out what it might look like via this The Disney Blog link — seems that Werther’s has shot candy commercials in Epcot’s Germany, turning that exact store into a Werther’s shop…

Epcot Food and Wine Festival Updates

As you know from our previous post, it looks like Belgium and South Korea will be joining the other country-specific booths on Epcot’s World Showcase Promenade this Fall at the 2010 Epcot International Food and Wine Festival.

Belgium, Singapore, and South Korea Rumored to be New 2010 Epcot Food and Wine Festival Booths

Epcot Food and Wine Festival

According to the twitter feed of a friend at the D23 Flowers and Fireworks event this weekend, we’ve learned some exciting new information about the 2010 Epcot International Food and Wine Festival!

As you know, the festival revolves around dozens of country-specific tasting booths, which are set up along the World Showcase Promenade. Every year, Disney World has added one or two new booths to the mix (last year, we got to sample Thailand and Brazil).

Word is that this year, Epcot will be introducing Belgium, Singapore, and South Korea to the line-up! (I don’t know about you, but I’m hoping for chocolate in that Belgium booth!)

There are other surprises, too! Disney’s introducing a special 3D Dessert party and more! Stay tuned to our Epcot International Food and Wine Festival page for the latest info!
