Review: Mochi Ice Cream and Hello Kitty Mochi in Epcot’s Japan Pavilion

We recently we dug our spoons once more into Kaki Gori, the Japanese Shaved Ice served at Kabuki Cafe. For years now, it’s been THE go-to treat as far as frozen options in the Japan Pavilion go, perfect for the cooling down in the current summer heat.

But did you know that Japan has got another — perhaps more authentic — frozen snack to keep your temperature down? It’s called Mochi. And though it’s been hanging around at the carts in the pavilion on-and-off for years, this additional cart we spotted recently seems to be mostly Mochi-centric. [Read more…]

Review: Kaki Gori Treats at the Japan Pavilion in Epcot’s World Showcase

Let’s be real: the temperatures in central Florida can be downright stultifying. But thankfully, Disney has provided many, many, many options for ice cold refreshment. And if you’re in the World Showcase at Epcot, tons of these awesome options are just a short walk away.

Monorail Epcot Flower and Garden

One of our favorites is located in the Japan Pavilion. Die-hards know it well — it’s Kaki Gori, and it’s a winner! Kabuki Cafe itself is super cool, featuring architectural details in keeping with its pavilion. You’ll find clay tile shingles on the roof, and paper lanterns hanging from the eaves.

Review: Lemon Berry Mousse Cake at Epcot’s Sunshine Seasons

Sunshine Seasons sure is putting the emphasis on seasons these days.

We took major notice two years ago when the Warm Peanut Butter Brownie came straight from nowhere to completely wow us. In the time it took us to fall smack dab in love, we also found out it was a “seasonal” item, which may or may not be there on the next visit.

Of course, we’ve seen plenty of seasonally rotating options in the practically famous Sunshine Seasons bakery case. Now, here’s why you need to keep an eye out: some seasonal items are labeled as such. Take, for instance, the Warm Apple Crisp, which was simply labeled “Seasonal Dessert” in the case. Others, though, just seem to appear with the change of… well, the seasons!

And the Lemon Berry Mousse Cake, which we’re sharing with you today, heralds the fruity flavors of spring and summer in a somewhat unexpected fashion.

Even tucked in among longtime crowd favorites like the Carrot Cake Cupcake, Key Lime Tart, and the Mickey Whoopie Pie, the Lemon Berry Mousse Cake still manages to stand out thanks to its unique appearance comprised of deep purple mousse and yellow cake with a whipped cream garnish.

New! Chocolate Caramel Swirl at Karamell-Küche in Epcot’s Germany

Karamell-Küche has been churning out ooey, gooey caramel treats in Epcot’s Germany Pavilion since it opened nearly SEVEN years ago.

(I started this blog just over 8 years ago, by the way. Time sure flies when you’re eating your way around Walt Disney World!)

Anyway, it’s all in the name: it’s the Caramel Kitchen, brought to us by Werther’s Caramel. It’s for those of us — and there are those of us ;) — who adore all things caramel maaaaybe even a bit more than the other candy darling: CHOCOLATE.

Now, that’s not to say that Karamell-Küche doesn’t have a few things in that golden bakery case for chocoholics. Not at all. You’ll find chocolate poured over a Caramel Apple, covering a caramel square, or topping Mickey’s ears on a Krispie Treat.

And now there’s one more that the chocolate lovers — and caramel lovers, of course! — can add to the list to try.

It’s the new Chocolate Caramel Swirl.

Karamell Kuche Chocolate Caramel Swirl

Everything you need to know is found in the first glance: it’s a thick cut swirl of chocolate and caramel, finished with chocolate sprinkles surrounding the outer layer. Well, there is one more thing you’d probably like to know: the Chocolate Caramel Swirl comes in at $4.49 or a Disney Dining Plan snack credit. [Read more…]

Review: New Jumbo Pretzel in (where else?) Epcot’s Germany Pavilion

If one snack has become associated indelibly with Disney Parks on both the east and west coasts, it’s the Mickey Pretzel. I mean, it’s Mickey-shaped, it’s portable, it’s pretzel. (And now it comes with cheese sauce just about everywhere — so yum!)

But let’s be real: If you want an authentic pretzel experience, where the texture, color, and flavor combine for pretzel perfection, you gotta head over to the Germany Pavilion in World Showcase.

Review: Warm Peach Cobbler at Liberty Inn in Epcot’s American Adventure Pavilion

Disney World Counter Service locations typically offer a few standard desserts.

You may be familiar… at places like Cosmic Ray’s Starlight Cafe and Pinocchio Village Haus in Magic Kingdom you’ll often find Chocolate Cake on the dessert menu. Over in Hollywood Studios, Fairfax Fare, Backlot Express, and more serve a Chocolate Mousse. Chocolate Mousse is an Animal Kingdom Counter Service dessert staple, too, at Yak & Yeti Local Foods Cafe.

They’re all fine, if not particularly remarkable. (Okay, we DO dig that Chocolate Cake). But there is another Counter Service dessert that you’ll only find in one spot. Oddly, it’s found in a place not exactly known for unique choices: Epcot’s  Liberty Inn, located in the the American Adventure Pavilion.

You know the drill: Liberty Inn is the place to go if you (or your kiddos in tow) want simple classics like Burgers, Chicken Breast Nuggets, and the like — plenty of fried food to fuel your continued continental adventure.

Review: Warm Apple Crisp from Sunshine Seasons in Epcot’s Land Pavilion

Disney World’s fancy desserts are impressive with their layered fruits and house-made gelato and gaufrettes for texture.

And we love a creme brulee as much as the next guy with crisped, caramelized sugar on his upper lip. But, really, there is nothing like a good, soul-warming apple crisp.

We recently fell in love with the apple crisp they’re serving up at The BOATHOUSE in Disney Springs. And this typically-seasonal dessert finds a home on table service menus and in quick service dessert cases alike.

Today, we want to talk about the latter. And, not all that surprisingly, we found our most recent Warm Apple Crisp food hug at Sunshine Seasons in the Land Pavilion at Epcot.

Of course, we could have gone with an old favorite and ordered the Strawberry Shortcake (yum!) or a new favorite with the Mickey Oreo Cheesecake. But Warm Apple Crisp is the current seasonal dessert here, so we couldn’t pass it up. [Read more…]

DFB Video: Must-Try Margaritas for Cinco de Mayo in Disney World!

Happy Cinco de Mayo, everyone! Are you planning to indulge in some serious queso-guac-margarita goodness today?!

As for us, we know where we’re heading to celebrate: La Cava del Tequila in Epcot’s Mexico Pavilion! And you’re welcome to come along in our latest DFB Video: Cinco Margaritas to celebrate Cinco de Mayo!

Poblano Pepper Salt Rim

It’s Margarita Time!

La Cava del Tequila, with its stellar selection of tequila and mezcal (and even sotol!), is one of the best places anywhere ever to go for margaritas, or even flights. We’ve enjoyed our fair share of their handcrafted drinks.
