The New Sign for Spice Road Table!

The New Sign for Spice Road Table!

Disney Food Blog exclusively broke the official news that Morocco was introducing a new small plates restaurant way back in 2012!

We’ve watched the progress with eager eyes and can’t wait to try out the new spot, which we KNOW will be a great location for catching the IllumiNations fireworks!

Here’s a little photo tour of the new location, straight from Epcot today! You can see that construction walls are still up, so Disney’s going to be burning the midnight oil for the next two days getting this spot up and running… .

Spice Road Table Signage Up in Disney World’s Epcot!

Welp, we’re getting closer and closer to the newest restaurant in Epcot! The gorgeous Spice Road Table signage was spotted by DFB roving reporter Wendy this week!

Check out the colors and iron scroll work!

What’s Spice Road Table, you ask? You’ll remember that waaaaay back in 2012, DFB broke the exclusive news that a new restaurant would be opening in Epcot’s Morocco pavilion!

And, as we confirmed, Spice Road Table is opening soon!

Epcot Debuts Sweet and Savory Waffles for the Holidays!

Epcot’s Holidays Around the World celebration features holiday customs and flavors from across the globe. Each country’s Pavilion in World Showcase offers a treat reflecting a bit of traditional holiday cuisine in the represented culture.

Last week we took you around to see most of the yummy additions, but…we had to give these awesome holiday waffles their own post!

Let’s head to Promenade Refreshments!

Promenade Refreshments

Even if you are familiar with Epcot, you may be less so with Promenade Refreshments. Located at the entrance to World Showcase from Future World (it’s closer to Canada than Mexico), it may be best known as the Desserts & Champagne Booth during the Food and Wine Festival, or the spot that doled out Spiced Rum Dole Whips (see what I did there? ;) ) during the Flower and Garden Festival.

Promenade Refreshments

Promenade Refreshments has received another festive menu makeover. Take a look!

Promenade Refreshments Holiday Menu

Okay, so there are a few traditional treats on the menu… hot cocoa, apple cider, and mint tea, to name a few. Even with those, however, there is an option to add a twist. We’ll get back to that in a little bit.

For now, let’s focus on a couple of traditional holiday flavors presented in a very non-traditional way: the Savory Seasonal Waffle and the Sweet Potato Casserole Waffle! Then, we’ll head over to the bevvies!

Sweet Potato Casserole Waffle

Um…kudos to the chefs who think these things up! Let’s chat about — the Sweet Potato Casserole Waffle! YUM! Look at that thing!

Sweet Potato Casserole Waffle

The difference here lies in the batter: it’s made of sweet potato. The flavor combo of the batter along with the more-than-ample toppings of marshmallow, pecan, and caramel sauce was absolutely terrific.

And I thought it still looked great even after I “opened up” the waffle!

Inside of the Sweet Potato Waffle

I’d anticipated something way more gooey (I think I was expecting more of a marshmallow “fluff” topping), but this was much easier to handle. I wasn’t expecting to enjoy it as much as I did. While I liked both waffles, the Sweet Potato Casserole Waffle was the winner.

Just a note: be prepared to wait a few minutes (maybe four or five) for your waffle, because they are made per order. I didn’t mind the wait, because it meant each waffle came to me fresh and hot.

But if savory is more your thing…

Savory Seasonal Waffle

The Savory Seasonal Waffle brings together elements of a traditional American holiday feast: turkey, gravy, and cranberry, all together on a waffle made of…wait for it…stuffing batter!

Review! New Club Cool Flavors in Epcot!

Club Cool has debuted several new soda flavors for guests to sample!

This fun, FREE option in Disney World’s Epcot has always been a dedicated fans’ pit stop in the middle of a hot, exhausting touring day (even though I really do miss the old “walk-through-a-glacier” entryway! That blast of cool air was awesome!).

The main goal of coming here is either to indulge in some of the more palate-friendly Coca-Cola beverages from around the world, or to trick friends and family members into trying one of the more bitter options — Beverly!

Speaking of — fans of Beverly don’t need to worry. The favorite Italian aperitif is still on tap.

But several options have been retired, and the new flavors include beverages from Zimbabwe, Thailand, South Africa, and Peru.

Here’s a peek at the Club Cool choices!

New Flavors at Club Cool

Our friend @MealTrip tried them all, and wasn’t all that impressed. He much preferred the previous watermelon (China) and apple (Mexico) flavors to these.

But he went through and took pics of each new flavor so that you’d be able to see what you’re in for! :-) (Note: the see-through cups were used so that you could see the characteristics of each flavor. Club Cool still only offers the small, paper cups for the drinks.)

Fanta (Pineapple): This pineapple version is from Greece and has a sweet flavor with no caffeine. There are more than 90 flavors available in 180 countries. Fanta debuted in Europe in the 1940s and was introduced in the United States in the 1960s.

Fanta (Melon Frosty): This flavor of Fanta hails from Thailand and is the number one soda in that country.

VegitaBeta: Launched in Japan in 1992, this is a non-carbonated beverage with the flavors of apricot and passion fruit. This is also rich in beta carotene, which gives the beverage a bright orange hue.

Review: New Sommerfest Menu Items at Epcot’s Germany Pavilion

Welcome back new Disney Food Blog author Wendy with a review of the new menu at Epcot’s Sommerfest!

If it’s been a while since you’ve visited Sommerfest in Epcot’s Germany Pavilion, you may want to remedy that as soon as possible.

There are some recent additions to the menu that are well worth the trip while in Walt Disney World!

Atmosphere

Old World with limited seating sums up the atmosphere at Sommerfest. Still, there’s always a line here!

Sign at Sommerfest.

You’ll find this location at the back of the Germany pavilion in Epcot, right next to the waiting area for the larger, table-service restaurant, Biergarten.

The location is entirely open air, though you will be under cover when ordering.

Cast Members at Sommerfest.

Seating is minimal here, and many guests find themselves sitting on the pavement or on a nearby fountain ledge to dine! Be prepared if you’re visiting during the sweltering heat of…well…about nine months out of the year in Orlando. ;-)

Eats

If you are a fan of the Bratwurst and Frankfurters that are Sommerfest staples, fret not. They’re still at the top of the menu!

But I’m happy to say that the new Curry Wurst, Leberkäse (German Meatloaf) Reuben, and Nudel Gratin bring some fantastic variety along with both traditional and unexpected flavors to this beloved snack and counter service spot.

I love walking up to L’Artisan des Glaces in Epcot’s France Pavilion, especially at twilight. The lights glow like a glittering beacon drawing you towards pure ice cream goodness.

Snack Series: Raspberry Macarons at Epcot’s France

I was favorably impressed by my first visit to Les Halles bakery in the France pavilion at Epcot. I’ve been back several times since then and continue to think this is one of the best counter service dining venues at Walt Disney World.

During a recent trip to Epcot, I took my husband for his initial taste of Les Halles. As his introduction to the bakery, I bought him a raspberry macaron.

During a trip to Paris and Disneyland Paris in 2010, we become obsessed with macarons. I’m not saying that lightly. We sampled macarons at Pierre Hermé, Angelina, Ladurée, and a dozen more locations throughout Paris. I’m a professional ;-)

Review: New Macaroni and Cheese Burger at Epcot’s Electric Umbrella

Welcome DFB reader and author Wendy with a review of the NEW Macaroni and Cheese Burger. Venture to Epcot’s Electric Umbrella in Future World for a bite of comfort food!

Okay, I confess… I’ve passed by Electric Umbrella in Epcot’s Future World on my way to grab some fish & chips at the United Kingdom Pavilion’s Yorkshire County Fish Shop in World Showcase many, many times.

But I heard a rumor about something new on the menu that piqued my interest and made it a must-visit.

Burgers? Mac and Cheese? What’s not to love? We had to try it!

This futuristic counter service restaurant is much-maligned, but we’ve actually had a few good experiences here in recent visits. And I was really looking forward to what might happen on this stop in.

Upon receiving my order, I chose this great table between the cheerful – and, yes, electric — umbrellas…
